Colonel Roberta A. Woods commanded the 24th Corps Support Group (CSG) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was deployed from 19 January 2003 until 5 July 2003. The 24th CSG was largely in support of the 3rd Infantry Division although, for a time, it supported the entire corps. Using both a rear and a forward command post, they were able to synchronize efforts over long distances and through rapid movement. They anticipated that fuel would be their largest challenge and they rehearsed that effort. Once major combat ended, though, that priority changed. Instead, water, food and ammunition became the most critical supply needs, and the CSG met those needs with ingenuity and by having to overcome some challenges. Woods reports that her customer satisfaction was generally high although when everyone and everything is a priority, there will be some complaints. Although they had very little military police protection, they were able to tuck in with the 3rd Infantry Division and their convoys did not face the insurgent threat that later supply units faced. They also had a role in capturing enemy ammunition and Woods had a Japanese television crew embedded with her soldiers.
