The supply company commander in the 82nd Forward Support Battalion, which supported the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment - part of the 82nd Airborne Division - Major Wesley Wright deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002. "At that point in time," he said, "as far as the support role goes, it was the only game in town. There may have been some inkling of Iraq at the national security level, but we really didn't know much about it. We knew we were going to be in an austere environment down in Kandahar Airfield." Wright's battalion provided all the fuel for central and southern Afghanistan and, in this first of two interviews covering his Global War on Terrorism deployments, he discusses among other topics the numerous challenges he faced in maintaining something approaching 650,000 gallons of fuel.
