Military discipline is founded upon self-discipline, respect for properly constituted authority, and the embracing of the professional Army ethic with its supporting individual values. Military discipline will be developed by individual and group training to create a mental attitude resulting in proper conduct and prompt obedience to lawful military authority (FM 600-20 2010). Standard enforcement is critical for the United States Armed Forces, specifically the Army, to conduct our nation's battles in a moral, ethical, and legal manner while defeating the enemies of our country. The primary problem at hand is the inability of the Army's enlisted middle management to educate, train, and enforce the standards of conduct required to have standards based, ethically grounded, disciplined organization.
