This paper compares and contrasts the wheeled fleet we have today to the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier support unit that provide Armor for the Soldier who only has ACU's for protection. Light infantry Brigades (LBCT) are an important element of the Army's force that is needed to meet possible enemies on today's modern battle field. They lack the mobility and survivability equipment to be of much use beyond the lowest intensity conflicts in terrain that is restrictive in nature. This limitation constrains the Army in full spectrum operations one of the key's in today's military. This is clear when you consider mobility, one of the key elements of combat power; heavily armed mobile threats in the modern world force the (IBCT) to come up with a new framework for maneuverability and survivability. I will examine how the light infantry concept is explored focusing on the intended purposes for which infantry divisions were formed and an evaluation of their actual tactical mobility capabilities. Following this examination of today's infantry, I will look at the pentomic Era in the late 1950's in which M59 armored personnel carrier companies were held at Division level and the Division sent combat attachments to help move the Infantry
