A civil-military operations center (CMOC) is a term all too familiar to any civil affairs and psychological operator, but not so familiar to many others in the military. I have been a civil affairs operator for almost ten years and first learned of the acronym and concept of a CMOC during my fe-classification course for Civil Affairs Specialist. CMOCs take on various configurations and can be anything from a mobile platform in a HUMVEE to an elaborate palace based coordination center with multiple characteristics. I had the opportunity to serve in the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion and tasked to operate a CMOC in numerous environments under various conditions. This is a brief summary of that experience.
