In the late summer 0f 2009, I assumed responsibility of the 10th Mountain Division's Special Troops Battalion. The DSTB is the largest Battalion on Fort Drum with just under 900 Soldiers. The Battalion is unique in that it contains 5 companies: Headquarters Headquarters Company, Bravo Company, 10th Mountain Division Band, the Network Support Company and the Headquarters Service Company. Within our Battalion we have the Commanding General for the Division, two Brigadier Generals, four Colonels, the Division Command Sergeant Major and 18 Staff Sergeant Majors, a handful of Lieutenant Colonels, Majors and hundreds of Soldiers. This paper covers my first six months as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major.
