The mission of the Embedded Tactical Trainer (ETT) is to train side-by-side with an Afghan counterpart. It is the intent of this training to aid and train the Afghan senior leadership in daily operations of a functioning Company, Battalion, Brigade or Corps. On 5 March 2005, the 196th Field Artillery Brigade Headquarters received an alert order for 96 personnel to perform an ETT mission in Afghanistan. At the time, the assigned personnel of the HHC had any idea what an ETT mission consisted of. Members of the unit spent the next five weeks preparing for mobilization and researching what would be expected of us. Three months of training and twelve months of deployment proved that little, if any, of what we expected actually came to be.
