In November 2006, A Troop 5/73 Cavalry, 3rd BCT, 82nd ABN Division reunited with the rest of the Squadron at FOB Caldwell (Kirkush Military Training Base, KMTB) after being detached to the 3rd BCT, 4th IN Division for a period of four months in Baqubah, Iraq. As part of the reintroduction of the unit, the squadron commander conducted a two-hour aerial reconnaissance with all troop commanders and first sergeants within the squadron's area of operations (AO) in order to clearly define troop AO's within the squadron's battle space. This over flight initiated a large scale, violent kinetic fight with fanatical Wahabbist insurgents that spanned the next five days and concluded with the awarding of the Presidential Unit Citation.
