How things can change, I was settled into my duties as the operations sergeant at the local university ROTC unit. The only thing on the horizon was the holiday break, where I would spend quality time with my wife and son. Then as the military docs, it all changed. In a matter of weeks, I was deployed with a field artillery battalion that trained for six months and then served 12 months in a combat zone. A change in location would not be the only difference; I would also face a yet another duty position change. As Soldiers we have to be prepared for the unexpected. Training, experience, team work, prepares any leader for mission changes or reassignments.
