This is the story of Recruiting and Retention efforts for the 3-1161h Armored Cavalry's deployment as seen through the perspective of the assigned Recruiting and Retention Non Commissioned Officer in Charge. The timeline will begin at the notification of the pending deployment thru the transition of the deployed soldiers back to the life as a traditional guardsman. I will include issues unique to the Recruiting Command within the Army National Guard. These actions took place in La Grande, Oregon. This information hopefully will shed some light on the problems the Recruiting and Retention force can face during the support of deploying units. I served as a Recruiting and Retention Non Commissioned Officer in Charge (RRNCOIC) during this deployment. My area and units of responsibility covered over half of the slate of Oregon. Which as you will see held unique challenges trying to ensure comprehensive care was available to all dislocated family members.
