The 1991 USASMA Annual Command History is designed to preserve a record of the academy's activities during the year. It consists of three main parts. The first is a very brief introduction to the history of the academy and the Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES). It is a part of the history because much of the faculty and staff are military and, therefore, transient. Even this limited discussion of the history of the academy and the noncommissioned officer education system, which constitutes a large portion of its curriculum, will be new to most readers. The second part discusses significant activities within the academy. It is broken down into a number of headings to discuss the various activities, but the intent of the section is to convey a sense of the type of activities which had priority and emphasis during the year. The section on planning is designed to provide a sense of what the Commandant and staff hoped to accomplish in the near and far term. The last section discusses a number of organizational elements of the academy in more detail than would be possible in the second section. It is designed to convey a picture of the organizational makeup of the school. It is also designed to show personnel in the various organizational elements of the school a portion of their input to the history. The history is a cooperative project which depends much on the input from the various organizations which make up the academy. Few will read this history from cover to cover. Host will consult the history as a reference source. They will look for a particular topic or organization. This last section helps meet the expectations of most readers.
