Thesis Statement: Strategic miscalculations at the Chosin Reservoir caused the retreat of the allied forces. Discussion: The poor intelligence and underestimation of the enemy as well as the terrain and weather conditions led the United Nation Forces to badly misjudge the Chinese intentions. If General Mc Arthur had done a better job as Strategic Commander, lots of lives could have been saved and the situation in Korea would not be that difficult today. Conclusion: With a better Intelligence Service, better equipped troops (winter clothing), and a better weather forecast the allied forces wouldn't have faced a defeat and retreat. Counterpoint: General Mc Arthur was not responsible for the miscalculations nor for the wrong deployment of the allied forces. He was overruled by the U.S. government. Furthermore it was impossible for the Military Intelligence to recognize the Chinese intention.
