This brief is a short history of the enlisted ranks and how they evolved into what we recognize today as our enlisted rank system. The History of the Enlisted Rank is truly a rich evolution of tradition and change. Its progression demonstrates that change, in the military effects jobs, positions, technology, and policy. These changes played an important role in what we know as the rank structure of today.
