The world has changed dramatically since America abolished the draft in 1973; there have been historic changes in the balance of world power, periods of economic good fortune, and the new challenge of global war on terrorism for the United States. The evolution of the all-volunteer Army from its start in 1973 to where we are in 2005 is likewise a history of dramatic change and proud accomplishment for Army recruiters. In the 1970s the recruiters were responsible to transition America into a successful all-volunteer Army. The challenge to recruit high-quality males became a concern. The recruitment of women became vital to the success of the volunteer force. The Army expanded opportunities to women after abolishing the Women's Army Corps in 1978. The addition of women volunteers assisted in meeting recruiting goals throughout the 1970s....
