This article is about the origin of the term 'Sergeant'. Research conducted of the term Sergeant includes its humble beginnings in the Middle Ages (Around the fifth Century and lasted about 1000 Years) during the rise of a period in World History known as Feudalism (850-1000AD). Also included are findings in theory are rank structure associations in the Roman Empires military to a rank called the 'Second Tribunes'. The article will briefly show changing evolution of the spelling of the term Sergeant or Sergent to 'Serjeant' (abbreviated) Sjt, until accepted as 'Sergeant' Sgt., until after World War II and its arrival into the US Military and specifically the U.S. Army.
