The United States has repeatedly been unprepared to complete its combat mission. Why does the United States sacrifice the lives of Soldiers before realizing its doctrine and equipment are outdated? During WWII in The Battle of Kasserine Pass, the U.S. sent hundreds of untrained and improperly equipped Soldiers to face a strong well experienced and well equipped enemy. During Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), the U.S. initially used the same doctrine and equipment that led them to victory in Operation Desert Storm. During OIF this proved to be a fatal mistake for many of the members of the 507th Maintenance Company that were unprepared for battle. The Global War on Terrorism is far over and new enemies can emerge: paying with the lives of Soldiers is not how we should find out that we are not prepared. The United States Army must find ways to be prepared for any battle.
