As we look at the past for answers about the noncommissioned officer, the real question remains of how much do we really know about their past functions and roles. For years this question has lingered in the minds of educators and military historians, each trying to unlock the mysteries of those noncommissioned officers who came before us. As scientific discoveries and technological advancements become more available, the question remains, Is it important to look into the mysteries of past NCOs and how much will we gain from it? In this paper, we will revisit the idea of how important the role of noncommissioned officer is in the military.
