Since its formation in 1775, the United States Army has prepared its noncommissioned officers to take care of Soldiers and to accomplish their missions by publishing doctrine, giving NCOs increased responsibility and professional education, and by creating a senior enlisted advisor position at the Department of Army level. Despite progress in the past 232 years, however, many experienced NCOs have decided to leave the ranks due to the persistent conflict in the Global War on Terror, causing the Army to lose valuable experience.
