The purpose of this paper is to examine the double standard amongst the ranks when conducting the Army Physical Fitness test and the weigh-in. Setting one standard for lower enlisted Soldiers and a very different standard for officers and senior NCOs is ethically wrong. As leaders, it is our moral duty when faced with an ethical dilemma to ensure that our decisions lines up with the Army values. Leaders are responsible for establishing good order and discipline in the unit and must exercise good judgment at all times. When conducting the APFT and the weigh-in, the standards should be the same across the board for all Army personnel. We must uphold the standard by making the hard right decision over the easy wrong.
