As credit card debt and bankruptcies increase in the ranks of the United States Army, senior Leaders have to ensure that our Soldiers are taken care of and provided financial counseling and assistance to get their debtors paid off and their credit rating back on track. Army Organizations like Army Community Service (ACS) and Army Emergency Relief (AER) provide such services to our Soldiers to include interest free loans and/or grants to help them get their finances and family back on track. So if these organizations are providing this much needed counseling and interest free loans, why are senior Leaders promoting civilian organizations like Military Installment Loan and Education Services (MILES)? This ethical issue stems from some senior Leaders who do not have the best interest of the Soldier in mind but who are promoting a civilian loan organization that practically puts the burdened Soldier deeper in debt.
