Use of civilian personnel by the military is |critical to wartime effectiveness and increases the overall strength of the military. This information paper is an individual paper in support of Group 3, L09 Haines paper. Today's nonlinear battlefield has caused a greater need for civilian contractors. The Army use of contractors is not new and dates back to America's fight for independence from Great Briton. They supported much of the effort during the Revolutionary War by carrying materials and furnishing mess, uniforms, and barracks for Washington's troops. Today, missions in Iraqi and Afghanistan have significantly improved with the use of civilian contractors. Obviously, using civilian contractors is important part of force projection capability.
