Thesis Sentence: The U.S. Military and Coalition Forces must change from the traditional, conventional doctrine and adapt new strategies if it hopes to outmaneuver the enemy and win on the asymmetrical battlefield. In modern day warfare the conventional military faces the difficult problem to adapting its structure and methods to deal with the future contemporary operational environment (COE). The United States Army leaders and think tank experts believe the near future to be filled with numerous irregular warfare situations. This is supported by the belief that the U.S. Military will have no peer until at least the year 2020. This does not mean that the conventional military will not be engaged in conflict. The military will most likely find itself engaged in irregular warfare with terrorists or insurgents, conduct operations other than war, and other full spectrum operations. Therefore, the U.S. Military and Coalition Forces must change from the traditional, conventional doctrine and adapt new strategies if it hopes to out maneuver the enemy and win on the asymmetrical battlefield. The evolution of the military will be essential in order for the military to be successful in these areas it will have to change or adapt new techniques, training methods, equipment, and our command and control procedures.
