Most Americans do not support further offensive operations in Iraq largely because of the cost. However, offensive operations should continue because freedom and security are not free and the price is necessary for global security. The effects of offensive operations have had a positive impact on Iraq, its military and Iraqi civilians by providing increased security and a renewed hope for democracy. As the United States continues to fight the war on terror, offensive operations have severely crippled Al-Qaeda and the insurgency in Iraq. Even though political leaders are demanding an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, there is a need for continued offensive operations against insurgents because it has been successful in reducing insurgent attacks, and continues to be critical in preventing insurgent build up and in the safeguarding U.S. strategic plans.
