This paper will address ethical decisions made by the commander of the 3-13th Field Artillery Battalion before and during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. The commander allowed officers of the battalion to go to school during the deployment, but did not allow noncommissioned officers go to school. He was able to cancel or reschedule NCOs career progression schools. He went to school himself and then took leave before returning to Iraq. Dilemmas like these are common and go on daily in all units in the United States Army. It seems that the Army always takes care of the officer corps and enlisted soldiers just fend for themselves. Soldiers are more educated and can see right through leaders that are uncaring or not truthful. A leader must remember that leaders take care of their Soldiers and should allow for career progression to all, not just his own.
