As with any Army, ours grew out of a ragtag bunch of volunteers into what we have today. From its earliest beginnings, it had to create its own rank structure its own heroes and its own leaders who would guide them in future victories of the day. In the next few minutes, I will guide you through a lesson on the American Army and its Rank, Weapons and a few of its numerous heroes covering the time period of 1775-1864. Did you ever wonder what the origins of the chevron were and why you and your fellow Non-Commissioned officers where them today? The chevron in heraldry was employed as a badge of honor to mark the main supporters of the head of a clan or "top of the house."
