The New Zealand Army's Ethos and Values continues to provide an ethical base for the soldier generation of today. An ethos is defined as the characteristic spirit and beliefs of a community or system. Values are defined as the moral principles or accepted standards of a person or group. In an age where society appears to embrace the individual, the emphasis that the NZ Army places upon teamwork and mutual reliance may appear archaic. The new recruit, referred to also as part of the X and Y generation is a raw reflection of today' s society. They bring a different set of standards, ethical behavior and religious beliefs with them on enlistment into the Army.
