Entering Mogadishu with the expectation that it would remove General Aidid from power, and aiding the starving civilian population, went against many Americans belief that being part of a humanitarian crisis during a civil war was a good idea. B. The United States entered Mogadishu under a United Nations mandate with the intent of restoring order in a lawless country, but due to the lack of intuitive planners that failed to recognize the nature of the conflict and the resources needed, led to the chaotic situation.
