Illegal immigration is perhaps one of the greatest problems faced by United States. There are nearly 11 million illegal immigrants in the country today putting enormous pressure on the economy. Majority of these illegal immigrants come from Mexico and the Latin American countries. Since 1990s the numerical strength of the illegal immigrants has remained larger than the legal immigrants. Illegal immigrants could be those entering without valid authorization, staying beyond the period of valid authorization, and those who stay beyond the valid or authorized period of legal entity. Many illegal immigrants come into the country by violating the border crossing rules and regulation. Towards this end the illegal immigrants always use deceit and fraud. Most of the illegal immigrants constitute the uneducated legal manpower of the country. Influx of illegal immigrants has resulted in creation of a large community of such immigrants. With the arrival of such illegal immigrants major economic impacts have resulted and it is not wrong to say that unauthorized immigration is bankrupting United States as the expenses made on them are larger than what is extracted from them by the authorities. The crime rate is also increasing with the enhancement in the number of illegal immigrants. Identity theft, drug smuggling, and gang war are all on the rise. There are multiple reasons why one should not support legalization of illegal immigrants. No less potent is the effect on the environment. It is necessary to reassess the problem and reconsider the issues of legalizing illegal immigrant status in United States.
