Conventional war history at times has been criticized as non-analytical account in which a famous author provides only chronological events of military general and battles. However, examination of the current military studies reveals that current military history covers much more than that. Today, war history includes social aspects cultural examination and political events and policies of a country. In addition it includes the military strength of that country and its ability to wage war, the social, cultural as well as political aftermaths of a war. Luvaas (1982) obverse that, studying past evens of war also includes learning the relationships that exists between the military forces and the communities within where these forces come from. Thus, the question that is being asked is that, is it essential for a soldier to study war history. Then why should a military profession study the history of war? This paper will try and answer this question by arguing that it is essential for the military to learn war history basing on the arguments that will be presented in the essay.
