Thesis Statement: The Patriot Missile System played a significant role in preventing Israeli retaliation in the Persian Gulf War. Israel has a very clear policy of self-defense in response to attacks against her. Israel is known for swift and sure retaliation with little regard for world opinion. When attacked by Iraq, during the Gulf War of 1990 and 1991, Israel immediately poised to enter the war and protect her people. Swift intervention by US led Coalition Forces however, convinced Israel not to retaliate. By not entering the war, Israel preserved the integrity of the Coalition's Arab forces that threatened to leave if she entered the war against Iraq. Conclusion: The defense of Israel's cities and populace by the Patriot Missile System allowed her to waive her practice of self-defense. With US soldiers defending Israel, the coalition remained intact and united in its effort to oust Iraq from Kuwait.
