Thesis Statement: Failure of the United States (U.S.) to properly prepare for Biological Warfare (BW) will result in devastating losses and destruction. Discussion: The U. S. formulates its doctrine surrounding BW toward deployment on the battlefield. The future ofBW will be deployment in urban areas and through terrorist means. The U. S. must look at advancing the doctrine and policies aimed at answering this threat in a more aggressive nature to avoid mass confusion, devastation and loss of life in the event of its deployment within the borders of the U. S. Conclusion: The current U.S. policies and doctrine concerning the threat of BW are insufficient for the enormity of the potential threat. Biological weapons provide a cost efficient means for countries and terrorist groups to manufacture and deploy weapons of mass destruction. The current U.S. posture does not adequately prepare the military and civilian population for survival in the event of the deployment of biological weapons by our enemies.
