The purpose of this monograph is to determine the factors necessary to conduct breakthrough operations. The categories of evidence that will be examined in this regard will consist of theory and military history related to successful breakthrough operations. Determining those factors will provide a mechanism to distill the essence of breakthrough operations into doctrine.
