The battle of Kiangyin represents an example of a small navy fighting against vast superiority according to the determined over-all strategy of a nation. There was no alternative left for such a navy. And there was no other task for the Chinese Commander save the attainment of an ultimate object. Yet physically, this battle has probably become the earliest example of air-sea warfare, a kind of warfare perhaps destined to change the appearance of modern naval warfare.
