This study details the personal experience of a machine gun officer commanding the 107th Machine Gun Battalion during the attack of the 28th Division. The author reveals that the principle of mass applies to the use of machine guns in the attack, and that close cooperation with supported units is important (rather than simply equipping smaller units with machine guns) to insure control and fire on the proper target. There is a map of Foret D'Argonne included.
