Dark, navy wool cap. Entire cap is flexible. On front is a 3rd squadron logo. Logo has a titled white "3". In the middle of the bottom of "3" is a white star with a red circle in the middle. Background is blue. A red beam goes from the backside of the 3 to the right side of the logo. Entire logo is encircled with a yellow ring. Artifact was in SGT Swenson's possession until his death in 2018. Passed on to his son Galen Swenson. SGT Swenson was born on 8 April 1922 in Lindsborg, KS. He passed on 15 FEB 2018 in Lindsborg. He is buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS. SGT Swenson served in the Army Air Force from 1942-1946 at Sherman Airfield, Fort Leavenworth, KS and at Hamilton Field AFB, San Rafael, CA. Swenson's discharge papers listed him as a crew chief. Information provided by son: While stationed at Leavenworth he worked as an airplane crew member, training students to fly. Served as an engineer on flights. He participated in the Sherman Airfield baseball team for 3 years as first baseman. Swenson also flew back and forth after WWII to return soldiers home. SGT Swenson broke his ankle playing basketball and served the final portion of his enlistment in San Rafael, CA. Bibliographic Citation: Lewis, Kenneth.
