Entire medal made up of three bronze pieces with two pieces held together by a cloth ribbon in the design of an American flag. The main medal is in the shape of a cross consisting of a central design of two soldiers facing a figure who is kneeling down and surrendering. The image is encircled by the words "Spanish War Veterans 1898-1902. The four portions of the cross are inscribed with the words:"Cuba, Porto Rico, USA, and Phillipine Islands" (going clockwise from the top). The cross is attached to another bronze piece with a chain link. The second bronze piece is the image of a cannon tube, rifle, gun, and anchor. The top bronze piece, connected to the middle piece by a ribbon, has a 3/4" laurel wreath with applied eagle clutching a U.S. shield. Open hook and pin closure on wreath along with loop. The reverse of medal has center medallion of shield with a decorated border; arms are marked with directions. Medal was used to commemorate veterans of the Spanish American War.
