Canteen, tin, 8" diameter, with cork stopper on metal chain. Canteen covered with heavy woolen material, threadbare on obverse with 3/4" wide white cloth strap passing through three metal loops and long enough for shoulder strap. U.S. Inspectors stamp on strap are illegible. Marked with crossed rifles on obverse numerical designation illegible. Replacement for wooden canteen replaced by ordinance model in 1874. This specimen shows late usage Circa 1880 due to the markings.
