Her hair is styled in curls at the front and sides. 88.4.1a -- Wood frame with decorative gilded plaster. Harriet Lovejoy Leavenworth was the third wife of General Henry Leavenworth. She was married to General Leavenworth during the establishment of Ft. Leavenworth and until his death in 1834. The fact has been established that this was a companion portrait of General Leavenworth but to date it has not been located. A photo of the Harriet L. Leavenworth portrait is entered in the Catalog of American Portraits, Washington, D.C. and is believed to be the work of American painter, John Wesley Jarvis, a New York Artist between 1815 And 1821.
