From the 1983 annual historical review -- Preface: This Fiscal Year 1983 (FY83) annual historical review covers the last nine months of the US Army Armament Materiel Readiness Command (ARRCOM) and the first three months of the US Army Armament, Munitions, and Chemical Command (AMCCOM). The AMCCOM resulted in the merger of the ARRCOM and the US Army Armament Research and Development Command (ARRADCOM) -- From Chapter I (page 1): The history of AMCCOM and its predecessor organizations revolves around two basic questions -- can the materiel procurement mission best be met with a centralized or decentralized administrative structure , and should the management of the readiness mission be separate or combined with the management of the research and development mission? Over the years each of these management approaches has been used. AMCCOM is the most recent answer to these questions.
