From 1977 annual historical review's Preface: It covers the Fiscal Year 1977 from 1 October 1976 through 30 September 1977. During this period the US Army Armament Command (ARMCOM) reorganized. The command split into two new commands on 31 January 1977. The logistics mission became the US Army Armament Materiel Readiness Command (ARRCOM) with headquarters at the Rock Island Arsenal. The research and development mission became the US Army Armament Research and Development Command (ARRACOM) with headquarters at Dover, NJ. Both are major subordinate commands of US Army Materiel Development and Readiness Command (DARCOM). Discussion of the reorganization appears throughout this volume. This history reflects the mission, organization, operations, and activities of ARMCOM and its successor, ARRCOM, throughout the year.
