Study divided into three major sections dealing with phonology, morphology, and syntax respectively. Following the syntax are some texts transcribed from unprepared spontaneous speech, which I feel are necessary in the presentation of any work of this kind. Folk-poetry and circumstantial language, both essential features of Baskintāwī, are included with the section on texts. In the appendixes I have given paradigms of the conjugation of verbs, and notes on the treatment of loan words, since the spoken language of Baskinta includes a large number of non-Arabic words, and especially words of Syriac origin which constitute a major part of the agricultural and liturgical vocabulary.
