From 1987 supplement: Introduction: The 56th Field Artillery Command remains a truly unique military organization. As the only Pershing II Missile Command, it's mission is to provide general support nuclear fires for the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. All actions by the men and women serving in this unit are under the close scrutiny of our allies and foes alike. The 56th Field Artillery Command plays an extremely important role in international diplomacy as evidenced by the signing of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty by President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev.
