From 1982 supplement: Chapter I. Mission and Organization; Section I. Mission of the 32d Army Air Defense Command: The 32d Army Air Defense Command today is deployed over 50,000 square miles of the Federal Republic of Germany. The command, like other NATO Air Defense partners, is under the operational control of the 4th Allied Tactical Air Force (4ATAF). With the Nike Hercules, HAWK, Chaparral and Vulcan as its organic weapons, the 32d is the Army's largest air defense organization. Its 16,000 men and women serve as a 24-hour a day bulwark in the NATO defense scheme.
