From the 1988 supplement: Executive Summary: During the year, personnel authorizations decreased by 20% with no decrement in support mission requirements. Automation has assisted to some degree in off-setting personnel shortages. In August and September, over 8,000 soldiers were processed for deployment to fight forest fires in Yellowstone National Park. The soldiers of 9th PSC worked numerous hours overtime and on weekends to ensure that emergency data was accurate for deploying soldiers. -- From Chapter 1, Section I - Mission: The peacetime mission of the 9th Personnel Service Company is to provide direct military personnel support to the 9th Infantry Division (Motorized) in the areas of orders, soldier actions, promotions, officer and enlisted personnel records, flagged records, evaluations, personnel reassignment processing, personnel automation support of the Standard Installation/Division Personnel System (SIDPERS), and Tactical Army Combat Computer System (TACCS) training. Our wartime mission is to provide personnel support to the 9th Infantry Division (Motorized) or other comparably sized deploying forces or to I Corps non-division units on a geographic basic. In a wartime operation we would cease personnel reassignment processing operations and begin casualty operations.
