From 1990/1991 supplement: Commander's Perspective: The US Army Information Systems Command formed the 6th Signal Command on 4 December 1990 to meet the need for a theater signal command to manage the information management disciplines in the growing Southwest Asia theater. A core of about 40 people departed Ft. Huachuca on 27 December 1990, arriving a few days later in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to establish the headquarters. Their journey survived aircraft maintenance problems and a bus breakdown on the long, hot ride from Dhahran to Riyadh. The new command focused its attention primarily on engineering, establishing, and managing a tactical network that eventually grew to the largest ever field in the history of the US Army From 1992 supplement: Commander's Perspective: The year began with 6th Signal Command focused on Operation Determined Resolve -- a planned response to Saddam Hussein's refusal to allow United Nations helicopters to transit Iraqi territory in search of weapons of mass destruction. The Army communications infrastructure was the most robust of any service and, necessarily, we had to plan on heavy, shared usage during the operation. Coordination with the Air Force was especially detailed. Fortunately, we did not have to execute the plan. Inactivation: On 1 June 1992, the command furled its flag in a dignified ceremony at Dragon Base, wartime headquarters for the XVIII Airborne Corps. 335th Signal Command (Forward) - Unit established to assume mission from 6th Signal Command, effective 1 June 1992.
