From the 1991 supplement, Executive Summary: Three decades after being activated during the Berlin Crisis, the 100th Division (Training) once again responded to the call to duty in January 1991. -- From Chapter 1. Mission and Organization: Desert Shield would set the stage for what would become a major initiative for the Division. As a result of Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, the president of the United States, and the Department of Defense increased the size of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf. The Army Chief of Staff commented that Army units deploying to Saudi Arabia would be trained to the highest standards before they deployed. Division units mobilized during Desert Storm became an integral part of Fort Knox's mission to receive and process soldiers.
