"Book is a biography of US Army Lieutenant Powhatan Clarke, a young white man who graduated from West Point last in his class in 1884 and was assigned to the 10th US Cavalry, an African-American troop in the Southwest United States. He caught the attention of artist Frederic Remington, who included him and his troopers in many artworks. He was awarded a Medal of Honor for rescuing one of his troopers during a shoot out with Comanches. Clarke drowned in the Big Horn River in 1893"-- Provided by publisher.
