From Chapter 1: This Headquarters participated in disaster assistance (Hurricane Betsy) in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, during the period 11 September 1965 through 12 November 1965. Two hundred and fifty eight personnel from Fort Hood were committed in the disaster area. During the latter part of 1965, Fort Hood received an influx of new soldiers. This marked the first time since 1961 that Fort Hood was used as a basic training post.
