From Preface: LABCOM was activated on October 1, 1985 as the newest major subordinated command (MSC) in U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC), part of an initiative endorsed in October 1984 by the Chief of Staff of the Army designed to improve the effectiveness and productivity of AMC laboratories.
