"Following my remarks we will present the first of six Historical Examples which are included in the College curriculum this year. These historical examples will be used as a supplemental means of instruction. They have been selected to show the use of historical examples and to highlights certain instructional points which are of interest and of value to you in furtherance of your military studies. "My discussion with you this morning has a two-fold purpose. The primary one is to answer the hypothetical question "Why study military history" and attendant thereto "How to study military history." The secondary purpose is to place the study of a historical example in its proper perspective in relation to the over-all study of military history." "The evaluation of documents on which your study is to be based is essential. You must analyze each critically." "Select you subject carefully. Research to determine the available sources. Evaluate the sources to determine their validity. Draw your conclusions from the facts as developed and apply what you have learned as the situation requires."
